The Bowling Green was saved with the help of £500 donated by ECRA, individual donations from local residents and a successful application to the Council’s small grants fund.  The Friends of Marlpit Lane Bowling Green at that time, managed to obtain a second hand mower (new mowers have sinced had to be purchased), purchase public liability insurance for the area and are able to pay for the ongoing services of specialist companies to maintain the green to playing standard, ready for each season. The Friends would like to thank ECRA residents for their donations and help.
How can you help?

  • You could help by joining the Friends.
  • You could provide a little of your spare time to help out by volunteering or helping with maintenance of the greens
  • Do you know a gardener or landscape company that might help with the maintenance

This photo was taken by Angela Spain when the plaque to Bob Jacobs was unveiled outside the Bowling Pavilion on 7th February 2014. The unveiling was watched by members of Bob’s family, colleagues, friends, local residents and bowlers. The tree was planted by Croydon Council in memory of Bob and the marvellous work he did in the Marlpit Lane Memorial Grounds from 1981 to 2011. Local residents, colleagues and friends contributed towards the plaque.
